Hotel Kanra Kyoto is a modern design hotel, but one that’s deeply rooted in the nation’s urban culture and in Kyoto’s local tradition. Formerly home to one of Japan’s notorious cram schools, this five-story building on a peaceful street has been transformed into a 29-room hotel. At Kanra, even the sleekest guest rooms have traditional tatami mats covering the living-room floors. The Kitchen Kanra restaurant is just as dedicated to harmonious interaction with the city of Kyoto, offering traditional obanzai cuisine, tapas-style, along with seasonal char-grilled vegetables.
