Just shy of a century after being founded there and two decades since leaving to move up to Madison Avenue, Barneys returned to its original home at Seventh Avenue and 17^th Street, where the story began.

Barneys New York has certainly evolved since Barney Pressman founded it as Barney’s Clothes, a humble pipe-rack menswear store, in Chelsea in 1923. In 1993, they moved up to Madison Avenue flagship at 60^th Street and bid farewell having one in Chelsea. They returned downtown to the original store’s location and opened the doors to a stunning new flagship that’s full of heritage, yet entirely modern—a natural compliment to the thriving Madison Avenue flagship.  The 58,000-square-foot space, which takes up nearly a whole block, was designed by Steven Harris Architects and includes five floors anchored by a signature spiral staircase.

The store will carries men’s and women’s ready-to-wear, accessories, footwear, and cosmetics. It will also house a personal shopping suite on the fourth floor, a Freds restaurant (with its own unique menu) on the third floor, and in the basement, a beauty shop, apothecary, and an outpost of Blind Barber.
