The first museum exhibition in the United States of the work of Sanja Iveković covers four decades of the artist’s remarkable career. A feminist, activist, and video pioneer, Iveković came of age in the post-1968 period, when artists broke free from mainstream institutional settings, laying the ground for a form of praxis antipodal to official art. Part of the generation known as the Nova Umjetnička Praksa (New Art Practice), Iveković produced works of cross-cultural resonance that range from conceptual photomontages to video and performance.

Designed by Todd Schliemann of Ennead Architects NHMU is in a stunning new building situated in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, overlooking Salt Lake City. Inspired by the region’s natural landscape of rock, soil, minerals and vegetation, the Rio Tinto Center rests on a series of terraces that step up the hill and lie along the contours of the site with minimal disruption to the adjacent natural landscape. For over four decades, the Natural History Museum of Utah has connected Utah residents and tourists alike with the natural wonders and native cultures that define Utah.

Wyckoff Exchange, Brooklyn’s emerging Bushwick neighborhood accommodates a live music and performance venue as well as an organic market and a boutique wine shop. The Wyckoff Exchange is designed by Andre Kikoski Architect, an imaginative, award-winning Manhattan based architecture and design firm. They wanted to create an iconic building to speak to the neighborhood’s emerging future as a center of art and creative energy, so they designed a unique façade that is dramatic, inventive and inspired by the industrial qualities of the neighborhood’s past. And with cutting-edge technologies and construction techniques, we were able to and transform this 100 foot long, eighteen foot tall and two inch deep façade into a contemporary mural of light and texture

Located in the heart of Manhattan’s Lower East Side, 257 Bowery is Sperone Westwater’s newest gallery location. Prompted by the need for larger and more structurally flexible space, the Foster + Partners design doubles the gallery’s exhibition area and provides a variety of rooms for the gallery’s ambitious and diverse program. The new eight-storey building, designed by Foster + Partners, features a 12 x 20-foot moving room, 13 feet high, which can create either a temporal transition between the gallery’s exhibition floors or an extension to a particular floor’s program.
The design incorporates a double height, 27-foot-tall, exhibition space at street level, with a sky-lit gallery, a mezzanine floor, a sculpture terrace overlooking a park, and private viewing galleries on floors 4 and 5.

1111 Lincoln Road is the mix-use (shopping, dining, residential and parking) project in Miami’s South Beach consisting of a drive-through bank and office building renovation with a new parking garage designed by Herzog & de Meuron. With this three-part program for 1111 Lincoln Road, the architects saw possibility in addressing the urbanistic significance of the site, the climate, and the mix of uses. Constructed of concrete and glass each level is filled with natural light.

Designed by architects Studio Daniel Libeskind and David Rockwell, Crystals is part of the City Center development. It is the combination of luxurious trends both in clothing and food.

The exterior architecture, conceived by Studio Daniel Libeskind, is a multi-faceted, brilliant glass canopy depicting the beauty of a quartz crystal that welcomes an abundance of natural light into the stunning three-level environment. Within, David Rockwell and Rockwell Group have created an abstract park that celebrates nature and the seasons, featuring “changeable artwork” in the way of hanging gardens and a colorful flower carpet.

Designed by famous architect Jean Nouvel the new 23-storey residential tower overlooking the Hudson River named Nouvel Chelsea. The light enhancing technique of adding an extra layer of nearly imperceptible transparent gloss under the windows to boost incoming sunlight is very clever. Almost 1700 individually sized colourless glass panes are set at unique angles and torques to create a glimmering pixilated façade and frame some of the most spectacular views in the city.

P.S.1 was founded in 1971 by Alanna Heiss as the Institute for Art and Urban Resources Inc., an organization devoted to organizing exhibitions in underutilized and abandoned spaces across New York City. In 1976, P.S.1 opened its first major exhibition in its permanent location in Long Island City, Queens, with the seminal Rooms exhibition. An invitation for artists to transform the building’s unique spaces, Rooms established the P.S.1 tradition of transforming the building’s spaces into site-specific art that continues today with long-term installations by James Turrell, Keith Sonnier, Richard Serra, Lawrence Weiner, and others.

For the next twenty years, the building was used as studio, performance, and exhibition spaces, in support of artists from around the world. After a building-wide renovation, P.S.1 reopened in 1997, confirming its position as the leading contemporary art center in New York. True to the building’s history and form, the renovation preserved much of the original architecture as well as most of its unique classroom-sized galleries. In 2000, P.S.1 became an affiliate of the Museum of Modern Art to extend the reach of both institutions, and combine P.S.1’s contemporary mission with MoMA’s strength as one of the greatest collecting museums of modern art.

High Line is the new public park of Manhattan, opened in June 2009 to the public. It runs from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to 34th Street, between 10th & 11th Avenues. Section 1 of the High Line runs from Gansevoort Street to 20th Street.

The High Line was built in the 1930s, as part of a massive public-private infrastructure project called the West Side Improvement. It lifted freight traffic 30 feet in the air, removing dangerous trains from the streets of Manhattan’s largest industrial district. No trains have run on the High Line since 1980. Friends of the High Line, a community-based non-profit group, formed in 1999 when the historic structure was under threat of demolition. Friends of the High Line works in partnership with the City of New York to preserve and maintain the structure as an elevated public park.

When all sections are complete, the High Line will be a mile-and-a-half-long elevated park, running through the West Side neighborhoods of the Meatpacking District, West Chelsea and Clinton/Hell’s Kitchen. It features an integrated landscape, designed by landscape architects James Corner Field Operations, with architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro, combining meandering concrete pathways with naturalistic plantings. Fixed and movable seating, lighting, and special features are also included in the park.

Dominus winery was designed by the Swiss architects, Herzog and de Meuron. Known for their innovative architectural design, their approach was to integrate the winery into the landscape, echoing the belief that the vineyard is of utmost importance. Indeed, from a distance, the gabion structure dissolves into the landscape and it has been dubbed by the locals “the stealth winery.”

Filled with basalt rocks from the nearby American Canyon, the stainless steel baskets are both an aesthetic and technical choice. Generally used to retain dirt along highways, here the gabions are used to moderate the extreme temperatures of the Napa Valley.Dominus’ glass offices provide panoramic views, allowing us to follow at all times the activity in the vineyard, key to producing a great wine Dominus is the property red wine, produced in the heart of Napa Valley by Christian Moueix and his team.

Founded in 1929 as an educational institution, The Museum of Modern Art is dedicated to being the foremost museum of modern art in the world. Museum’s departments are devoted to Architecture and Design, Film and Video, and Photography, in addition to Painting and Sculpture, Drawings, and Prints and Illustrated Books. Subsequent expansions took place during the 1950s and 1960s planned by the architect Philip Johnson, who also designed The Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Garden. In 1984, a major renovation designed by Cesar Pelli doubled the Museum’s gallery space and enhanced visitor facilities.

Designed by Yoshio Taniguchi, the new MoMA doubled its exhibition space. The new Museum opened to the public on November 20, 2004m The north galleries, which include The Leonard Dobbs Gallery, present an integrated view of the Architecture and Design collection from around 1850 to the present. In Taniguchi’s design, the north galleries feature a clear glass wall to overlook The Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden, which is the most beautiful garden in Manhattan. Sculpture Garden considered the heart of the Museum houses 31 works from the collection. The installed works of art represent a vision of modern sculpture ranging from the end of the nineteenth century to more recent times. The landscaped garden includes such celebrated works as Pablo Picasso’s She-Goat (1950) and Alberto Giacometti’s Tall Figure III (1960), as well as
works by contemporary artists.

Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, Smithsonian Institution is the only museum in the nation devoted exclusively to historic and contemporary design. The Museum presents compelling perspectives on the impact of design on daily life through active educational and curatorial programming.

The museum is in a beautiful sixty-four-room mansion, built from 1899 to 1902, is an impressive testament to the desire of Carnegie and his wife, Louise Whitfield Carnegie, to build a spacious, comfortable, and light-filled home in which to raise their young daughter, Margaret. The house was also planned as a place where Carnegie, after his retirement in 1901, could oversee the philanthropic projects to which he would dedicate the final decades of his life. From his private office in the mansion, Carnegie donated money to build free public libraries in communities across the country and to the improvement of cultural and educational facilities in Scotland and the United States.

The house is a fascinating study in innovative design. Completed in 1901, it was the first private residence in the United States to have a structural steel frame and one of the first in New York to have a residential Otis passenger elevator. The building received landmark status in 1974, and in 1976 reopened as Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, Smithsonian Institution. In Fall 2001, Cooper-Hewitt published an illustrated history of the mansion written by noted architectural historian Andrew Dolkart. It is available for purchase at the Shop at Cooper-Hewitt.
